9/16/08 - Spicy Spaghetti Topped with a Thousand-Year Egg.

The Chinese preserve eggs with a mixture of clay, ash, salt, lime and rice straw to make thousand-year eggs. Despite the name, this process only takes a few months to complete. With certain methods, it can be shortened to just a few weeks.

Somehow, such a relatively brief period can transform an egg to convey the gravity of a thousand years. Funny how fluid time can be.

I am reminded of how my sense of time is also often distorted. I tend to believe that a heartache will last forever, and that once in love, I will never recover.

But I always do, even if it takes a while.

So how long will it be this time? How long will I take to patch the void I can’t fill right now?

A few weeks? Months?

Even if it’s a year - even if it’s more - surely it will not be a lifetime. I know “thousand-year” is only an expression, only an impression.
